Where can life get more relaxed than by the water’s edge. We all have that happy place we recall when we need a mental break, but by the water’s edge is where you will experience real “Tranquility.

Family Story
The barn at Edgewood Farm in Alfred, NY has been the corner stone of many childhood memories. The pond below it, was our only pool, and the best way to pass those warm western New York summers. My mom grew up here and the original of this painting hangs on her wall as a memory of happy times in her childhood and the happy times for four additional generations (so far). The barn, like so many barns, represents a livelihood, and the hub of all farming activity. While this barn represents the legacy of my maternal family, it symbolizes the heritage of so many whose lives revolved around an old red barn. With love, faith, hardship, and hope they created, generation by generation, their “Family Story.”

Golden retrievers are loving dogs who live their lives rewarding others with their furry snuggles. Shelby was like that. Her sole purpose in life was to make others feel special. Even when confronted with strangers, Shelby would eagerly nudge against them as if to say, “I am here now. Your day will definitely improve.” And I am guessing it did. She made people smile and brought friends together. Even when Shelby aged and developed cancer leaving her with only three legs, she still stayed true to her mission of making others happy. When I took this photograph of Shelby resting on her “mom’s” porch, however, I do believe she was contemplating her second goal in life: “How can I get more cheese? One thing she loved almost as much as people, was cheese. This is in memory of my canine friend, “Shelby.” 2014-2026

Finding a life-long love and staying together through all of the ups and downs life throws at all couples is rare and precious. This couple happens to be my mom and dad as they are leaving a grandson’s sporting event. To me, they are mom and dad, but to others who see this painting, it could be their parents, grandparents, or even a glimpse of the future of their own marriage. It is a reminder to any age that no matter what, with perseverance, compromise, and love, after decades of marriage you can “Still be Holding Hands.”

Somewhere the moon is full and most of the flowers in this painting are basking in its glow. I imagine the biggest flower is a little late to the party, but despite a rough day, it can finally relax and just enjoy being a “Flower in the Moon Glow.”
The picture of this does not do the sky color justice. It is a lovely deep purple with a slight glow in the corner.

When you look at this painting, be reminded that the light at the end of the tunnel is not the only reward. Our focus often pinpoints the goal, and so often we miss the beauty of the journey. You will get there eventually, but for now, take time to enjoy the revelations and scenery “Before the Light at the End.”
Original acrylic painting capturing a bright display before the light at the end of the tunnel.
